Mrs. Rada’s Class News-April 10, 2018
In reading, we have been focusing on nonfiction texts, and read "Schools Around the World” and "Helen Keller" from our Journeys reading series. The students are getting proficient at identifying similarities and differences, sequencing events and using text features such as subtitle, caption and vocabulary words. Our spelling lists have been based on specific patterns, such as long vowels. We have also been doing journal writing and adding quotations to our writing. We are studying proper nouns, too.
In math, we are working on Chapter 6 in Everyday Math. We are doing multi-step story problems and using graphic organizers to help solve the problem. We are also working on subtraction with regrouping and fluency of basic addition and subtraction problems. The class also continue to review place value to the hundreds place.
Our grade level-wide Dr. Seuss Day was a great success. The students enjoyed working with other second graders and teachers to do gross motor activities, goldfish graphing, making bookmarks, doing a craft and responding through writing about a variety of Dr. Seuss books. Our class also enjoyed making and eating green eggs & ham!
Great job on the Pizza Hut Book It! Reading program. We had many students participate in the program. There were also five students who completed their reading log for all 6 months. A special congratulation goes to Callie, Taleah, Joseph, Rex and Natalie.
