School - Wide

The well-being of our learners and their whānau remains the most important thing and is therefore central to our approach to Learning@Home.

Top Tips for Learning@Home

1. Syndicates will plan a variety of on and offline learning experiences. The Arts will feature along with Acts of Service. Literacy and Maths/Pangarau will remain an important focus for our students.

2. Engage and do what works best for your whānau. Aim to create structure and routines that allow your children to be successful and to enjoy learning.

3. Learning for each syndicate can be accessed from the links at the top of this page. Further learning links for everyone are available below.

4. Every child has something unique that hooks them into learning e.g. dinosaurs, insects, machines. Feed this natural curiosity by helping them to find out as much as they can and to share this learning with others.

5. Our school facebook page (Gate Pa - Pukehinahina) is a great tool for staying connected with our school community and for accessing additional support.

Current Competition !!

Choose one of your favourite native animals (can be bird, reptile, insect, fish or mammal!) and see if you can find out the following information about them!

1. What family are they in?

2. Where are they found? (habitat & distribution)

3. What’s their favourite food?

4. What threats do they face today?

5. How can we help them?

6. What’s an interesting fact most don’t know about your animal?

If your feeling extra creative, you can also (or instead) do some artwork, write a story or poem, or even make a waiata about your favourite animal!

Share your mahi by sending it in to me at jandersen@gatepa.school.nz or (when school restarts!) bring it in to one of our lovely office staff. Two prizes will be awarded, one for the most well-researched mahi and one for the most engaging creative piece!

To help you, you can call a knowledgeable friend or family member and look for books or magazines your whānau may have tucked away! There are also some awesome online resources which may help too, including...
