Hi! My name is Kelsey Clarkson (formerly Miss Cahill) and I’m the School Counselor at Springfield Elementary. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from York College of PA and my Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from The Citadel in Charleston, SC. I am originally from New Jersey, but now live in Charlotte with my husband. I love reading, practicing yoga, hiking, and spending time at the beach.
This is my third year as the School Counselor at Springfield. I love working with the students, staff, and families of our Springfield community. My job is to advocate and work for the well being of all students, helping them to achieve success in academic, personal, and social-emotional growth.

This is a great article written by a child therapist that dives deep into impactful coping skills. This virus has taken a lot of power from all of us, including our children. Help them navigate through this change by practicing healthy coping skills and taking control over the problems they CAN fix.
Bonus: The article also includes some helpful tips to make YOUR life a little more stress free during this chaotic period!
Watch this new video called "The Yucky Bug" with your child. This story discusses the big changes we are all going through. Talk to your child about their questions and worries. Discuss the things we can and cannot control.
I provide weekly classroom guidance lessons to each class; focusing on topics ranging from character education, skills for learning, emotion management, empathy, and problem solving.
I also offer small group counseling that gives students with similar concerns or goals the opportunity to connect and work towards success in a safe and fun environment.
Individual counseling is available to all students to discuss personal, social, or academic issues. Some common issues I help students with include: making friends, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, emotion management, and self-esteem.
If you believe your child would benefit from small group or individual counseling please reach out to me. If you have a concern and need counseling support for your child please fill out the referral form at the bottom of this page.
