This year will be my 30th year as a teacher. All 30 years have been spent at Tryon School, "The Purrfect Place to Learn". I taught second grade my first year at Tryon, then moved on to fourth grade, taught first grade for 10 years, and then returned to fourth grade. Fourth Grade is my absolute favorite.
I knew from the time was in first grade, that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I could not imagine myself doing anything else. Teaching is hard work, but much more than that it is fun and even cool! There is nothing like teaching a young person something new. No amount of money can ever replace the satisfaction that comes from being a teacher. I love my job and especially love it that both of my children, Jordan and Emma were Tryon kids.
Jordan graduated from Gardner Webb University and is currently working in Charlotte. Emma is a Bessemer City High School graduate and is currently working as a dog groomer. My children are my world. They are both so different, but each so special to me. I can't imagine what life is going to be like when they grow up! In addition to my two children, I have three fur babies. Tiger, Josie, and Lilo are all rescue dogs. Rescue dogs make the best pets!
Church is another very important part of my life. I am a member at First Wesleyan, BC. I love my church.
I was born and raised in Rutherford County which is about one hour west of Bessemer City. My step mom still lives in my childhood home. I attended Cliffside and Sunshine Elementary schools. I went to high school at East Rutherford. Go Cavaliers!!
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at Gardner Webb University. I graduated college and then went straight into my job at Tryon School. In December of 2013, I completed my Master's Degree in elementary education. This was also earned from Gardner Webb. In addition to my degrees in elementary education , I have earned certification in teaching Academically Gifted children.
My coworkers are also very special to me. I am lucky enough to work with some special people as well as an outstanding principal . We are very lucky at Tryon Elementary to have so many caring individuals at one school.
