Mrs. Katherine Leatherman has a B.A. in Middle Grade Education and M.A. in Instructional Systems Technology. A former middle school teacher, Mrs. Leatherman taught Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies in 8th grade and 6th grade before becoming an Instructional Technology Facilitator. She has spent her career with Gaston County Schools, and works with middle and high schools in Gaston County to support teachers as they use technology to enhance instruction. She is a Google Certified Trainer, Google Certified Educator: Level 2, Apple Certified Teacher, and BreakoutEDU Authorized Trainer.
Mrs. Laura Long has a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2004) and a MLS degree from East Carolina University (2015). She is licensed to teach K-6, 6-9 Language Arts, English 9-12, K-12 AIG, as well as being a licensed media specialist. She taught middle school language arts for nine years and in 2010, she earned her National Board certification in Early Adolescent Language Arts. While earning her MLS degree, she proudly served the students of Kiser Elementary School as the school librarian. Mrs. Long has worked for the Gaston County School district for fourteen years and is enjoying her third year serving the students and faculty as Highland’s school librarian. Mrs. Long is the current Gaston County Schools Media Specialist of the Year and a Pinnacle Technology Leader (2005 – present).
Mrs. Martha Maxwell has a B.A. in English and a M.A. in English. Mrs. Maxwell holds licensure in 9-12 English Language Arts. Ms. Maxwell earned initial licensure to teach 9-12 English in North Carolina. She worked for Catawba County Schools from 2005-2011. She has been with Gaston County Schools since 2011. During her tenure in Gaston County Schools, she has taught Senior English and Advanced Placement Literature and Composition at Highland School of Technology. Mrs. Maxwell is a current GCS Pinnacle Leader.
Ms. Jamee Webb has a B.S. in English Education 9-12 and a MS in Library and Information Studies. Ms. Webb is in her twenty-first year of teaching in Gaston County Schools. Being a product of GCS, she loves that she is serving the public school system which served her. She left the classroom for two years to serve as a high school Library Media Specialist, but her heart is in the classroom, and her passion is in seeing students master the concepts of English Language Arts and research skills. Ms. Webb is in her eleventh year at Highland School of Technology, where she teaches junior English, advises the Junior Marshals, and orchestrates the Junior-Senior Prom. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher in ELA (Youth and Adolescent Literature), a STAR Discovery Educator, a multiple Ron Ensley grant recipient, a current GCS Pinnacle Leader (P22), and a member of the GCS High School Teachers P50 group.
