Staff

A native of Savannah, GA, Mr. Westbrook became the director of the Ashbrook Band Program at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. This is his third year as a high school band director, and his 5th year teaching. He and his wife Emily, a flautist and general music teacher, moved to Gastonia in 2013 from Canton, GA. They have two children, Ellie (9) and Andy (5). Mr. Westbrook is a brass specialist whose primary instrument is trumpet. He has had the honor of performing in many groups, including the Carolinas Wind Orchestra, Atlanta Wind Symphony, Buzz City Brass (Charlotte Hornets), Charlotte Concert Band, Charlotte Jazz Orchestra, and Orquesta Mayor. He holds his Bachelor of Music from Kennesaw State University (2012) and his NC Music K-12 License. Mr. Westbrook is an avid video game enthusiast and is currently reliving his childhood by collecting Transformers.

Jon Leonard is a graduate of Mars Hill University and a percussion instructor in the Charlotte, NC area. Jon has performed with the Brevard Philharmonic Orchestra, Asheville Lyric Opera, Theatre Charlotte, and various other theatre programs in central and Western North Carolina. As an educator, Jon has worked with many successful high school Programs in North Carolina. Currently, Jon serves as the Director of Percussion with Ardrey Kell High School and is a Battery Instructor with Revelation Percussion. Jon has served as: Director of Percussion with North Buncombe High School, Assistant Director of Buncombe Beatz indoor percussion, Assistant Director of the Owen High School Indoor Percussion Program, Director of Percussion with West Lincoln High School, Director of Percussion with East Lincoln High School, and Battery Caption Head with the North Greenville Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Jon serves as a consultant with many marching, indoor, and concert percussion ensembles in central and western North Carolina.
