FMCC STEP has been serving students at GASD since 1998 and we have a growing group of incredibly talented alumni charting their paths in STEM. STEP is a NYSED Grant funded program that offers students STEM opportunities, free of charge to the student. Additionally colleges recognize and highly value students' participation in STEP when reviewing college applications. CSTEP, the collegiate version of STEP also exists in over 45 NYS Colleges and Universities (public and private). As a STEP participant our students have top priority in CSTEP programs which allows the support and STEM programming to continue well into college. Thus, a STEP student could belong to this pipeline of wonderful programming from 7th grade all the way through graduating with their Bachelor's degree in college. STEP is like no other program around. We encourage you to check us out, and be a part of our award winning history of programming!
You can't grow if you don't learn. You can't learn if you don't come. Join STEP today and take full advantage of all we have to offer!
Each week after school our Middle and High School STEP program meets to explore the world of STEM. Simulate and Solve a Cholera Outbreak? Design and Build a Bridge? Build a Hydraulic Robot? Use Forensics to solve a Crime? These are just a few of the awesome things you might do after school.
Busing and Snack Provided. Day of week determined each semester.
This year we are Virtual Only due to Covid-19
Saturday Academy takes our programming to a whole new level. Each week busing and food is provided as we venture out on Saturdays to explore more STEM. Visit a museum, head to FM to be in the labs, go on a hike, spawn trout at SUNY Cobleskill or head out of town to NYC for MoMath, or Syracuse for the MOST Museum, even Corning NY for the Museum of Glass.
Saturday Academy takes you where you have never gone before. Sign ups each weekly.
Every year we pick 8-12 top STEP students to head to our NY Statewide STEP Conference where students meet other STEP students from around the state. Spend 3 days and 2 nights with us exploring STEM workshops, a college fair, great food, a dance party and more.
More importantly this is where our students present their original research to STEM professionals to win statewide medals or trophies. We've won many trophies! Looks great on your college application!
Boost your College Application by participating in activities that will get you recognized!
