"The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics." — Paul Halmos.
Hello! My name is Tomi Bennett. I'm a high school math teacher at Gettysburg Area High School. I am currently working on my second master's degree. A Master's in Educational Technology along with an Instructional Technology Specialist Certification through Wilson College.
My teaching journey started when I was in high school. I was a teacher assistant to a different teacher each year (in lieu of a study hall period), and I loved grading papers and making copies. My first experience as a teacher was babysitting for my little sister and cousins, using some of the time to teach them songs on the piano. That's when I discovered that I had a natural talent for, and enjoyed, teaching other people.
I originally wanted to be a music teacher, but decided I would have to learn too many instruments for that. Instead, I went to Central Michigan University for their math ed and science ed programs. I'm certified in both math and physical science for grades 7-12, but my passion is teaching Algebra.
I was born and raised in Michigan and still love to travel "back home" to visit The Great Lakes State! (Pictured in the background is Lake Huron at sunrise.) I love swimming, boating, and fishing with my husband. Our pugs love the water too! My husband and I moved to Gettysburg, PA in 2005 and I've been teaching at GAHS ever since. We love the history of the area, and being in close proximity to so many interesting places to go and things to do. We do miss the open land and fresh air of the Great Lakes that MI provides though!
