Our Science Principles
Primary Science Quality Mark
In 2019 we were awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM).
Primary Science Quality Marks have been awarded to 200 infant, junior, primary, middle and special schools to celebrate a commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning. So far, since its national launch in 2010, over 3500 schools across the UK have achieved a prestigious award.
Jane Turner, PSQM National Director said: “Gaining a Primary Science Quality Mark is a significant achievement for a school. The profile and quality of science teaching and learning in each awarded school is very high. Children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure scientific understanding and skills. Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”
“For several years, we have been developing science enrichment activities including Science Week and, more recently, the Great Science Share. We have been making links with local schools, universities, parents and other members of the community to make science learning more relevant and engaging” said Ruth Perry, Science Co-ordinator at Garsington School. “Working towards the PSQM award focused attention on greater consistency of science teaching and learning and supported all teachers to develop their practice and increase confidence.”
“Learning Science here is really interesting and fun because we can join in and investigate all sorts of different things,” said Cat, Year 4 pupil.
Annual Science Week
