Below are tools being utilized by the Garrard County High School to support Interactive Distance Learning. Review the tools to see what we are doing to provide the best learning experiences for your student(s). Each tool icon will link to a video explaining how we are using the programs at GCHS.
Google Classroom is the virtual classroom for teachers, students and parents who are utilizing Interactive Distance Education. It is a method to streamline the sharing of files between teacher and students. The video linked will outline an example of what you may find on your student's Google Classroom.
Google Meet is the place teachers and students can Meet and interact together. Meet is the interactive platform Garrard County is using. Some of you may have used Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams or other platforms in your work. Google Meet provides the same type of opportunity but connects to Google Classroom and the other Google apps. In the video linked, you can see an example of how students will be joining a Google Meet Session. Students will be required to join sessions during 12:00PM-2:00PM every Monday-Thursday (please view schedule).
Google Forms is a tool that allows collecting information from users through a personalized survey or quiz. The information is then collected and automatically connected to a spreadsheet. Teachers at GCHS may use forms as formative assessments, surveys, etc. View the linked video to see an example of how a form may be used at GCHS during interactive distance learning.
Google Docs is similar to Microsoft Word. Students can create documents using Google Docs. Teachers can review student work and include comments and instant feedback. Multiple students can collaborate simultaneously on a document. Teachers may utilize Google Docs for various writing assignments and they can even use it as a method for checking in with a class since all members of a class can be on the same Google Doc at the same time.
Google Sheets are similar to Microsoft Excel Sheets. Students can use Google Sheets to build spreadsheets individually or collaboratively with other classmates. This is another tool that allows teachers and students to interact together at the same time. It is another great collaboration tool. Teachers and administration will also be utilizing sheets to chart participation and formative assessment scores.
Google Slides are similar to Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations. Teachers will utilize Google Slides for presentation they share with classes and they are easily linked to Google Classroom. Students may access teacher assignments; reading experiences; books; and many other things from a Google Slide. Students may also use Google Slides to complete projects or assignments as a way of share their work with their teacher(s) and classmates.
YouTube is a free video sharing website pretty well know by just about everyone. Each teacher in Garrard County Schools will have their own YouTube Channel. This is where instructional videos will be stored for students to view.
Remind is a communication platform that helps educators reach students and parents where they are. Messages are sent in real time to an entire class, a small group, or just a single person. Garrard County Schools has purchased Remind for all teachers.
All high school teachers will be using Remind for attendance check-ins, two times per day. Students must reply to teacher check-ins to be counted present for that portion of the day. View the video linked to view the app and to see what message your student will receive.
Teachers have been creating visually pleasing, interactive virtual classrooms using what most students know- BITMOJIS! The interactive elements allow them to connect to students, and allow the students to click through to see assignments, documents, and websites. The mission of Desmos is to help every student learn math and love learning math. Desmos offers the renowned FREE Desmos Graphing and Scientific Calculators. Students can access the calculator via the web version or the free phone app. Teachers can also design digital classroom activities with Desmos, which allow students to collaborate, problem-solve, discover ideas, and explore concepts more deeply. Delta Math is a website created by a former math teacher that allows teachers to assign math content to their students from middle school to AP Calculus. Teachers can create assignments by adding topics. In addition to viewing examples and videos, students receive feedback after every problem that includes detailed solutions. Teachers can view student data and details, including how many attempts were needed and how long students spent working on problems. Click the link to see a video overview of Delta Math offerings.
