"Classroom brings Google Together." -Brian Dean, Garland ISD Digital Learning
If you are a GISD teacher and cannot create a Google Classroom, email helpdesk@garlandisd.net
You can invite guardians by going to the students tab. You must input the emails by hand, but this gives the parents a weekly summary by email. Also in the students tab, you can email, remove, or mute students by clicking the checkbox by their name and then clicking actions. If you need to transfer a student from one section to another, Technology may be able to move them over - email the helpdesk and ask.
A Google Classroom could have up to 20 teachers. Intervention teachers and others can be added as a teacher so they have access to their students' work without you needing to email every single thing.
The maximum number of students in a class is 1000.
You can make announcements to specific students by unchecking students on the post settings by clicking the default All students.
Topics are helpful and work like tags. Great for filtering posts after several have accumulated. (e.g. unit one, fractions, vocab, etc.)
Students have a work page that list all assignments, so titles like "Reflection 1" don't tell them which class it's for. Good naming practice is putting the course title before the Reflection part (e.g. French I Reflection 1).
When you set a due date, students get alerts as soon as they miss it. To minimize unnecessary panic, be careful in setting these. You can set a due date without setting a due time.
