If you decide to choose separate science it will count as one of your option subjects. This means you will be able to choose two other subjects from the options choices available. You will engage in separate lessons and examinations for:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
We encourage a broad and balanced approach to science, valuing all aspects of science (biology, physics and chemistry) and their individual roles in preparing students for the future.
This leads to the award of three separate IGCSE grades. In separate science you will study some aspects of each science in more depth and detail.
Three exams for each of the three science disciplines:
30% MCQ, 50% Structured answer, 20% Practical skills
Therefore at the end of Year 11 you will have 9 examinations for science in total.
You will have 6 science lessons a week (2 x Biology, 2 x Chemistry, 2 x Physics), taught by three different specialist teachers. Each science discipline is taught as a separate subject and you will have homework set separately by each teacher.
No, you need either coordinated science or separate science to do A-Level in a particular science subject. You will need to gain a minimum of a B grade in the subject you want to study.
3 exams for each science (MCQ/Structured Questions/Practical skills). There are 9 exams altogether.
