If you are passionate about sport and physical activity the Physical Education GCSE (AQA board) is for you. The course will give you the opportunity to study both the practical and theoretical aspects of Physical Education. The practical element will require you to regularly participate in a range of individual and team sports, you will then select your best three sports for your final assessment (you must have at least one team and one individual sport). The theoretical aspect will allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the effects of exercise on the body, applied anatomy and physiology, movement analysis, physical training, use of data, psychology of sport socio-cultural influences, health, fitness, and wellbeing.
40% Coursework - practical assessment across 3 sports
60% Exam - theory paper (2 exam papers)
If you love sports and physical activity then the GCSE PE is for you. The anatomy and physiology links closely with science and provides an exciting opportunity to link your practical and theoretical knowledge and skills. The GCSE links well with exercise and sports science, human biosciences, biology and psychology degrees.
