The First Language Malay syllabus is for learners whose first language is Malay. This First Language syllabus develops learners’ ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively. They learn how to employ a wide-ranging vocabulary, use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and develop a personal style and an awareness of the audience being addressed. Learners are also encouraged to read widely, both for their enjoyment and to develop an appreciation of how writers achieve their effects. Within the course, the classroom language used by both the teacher and students is Malay. Students in this pathway are strongly suggested to read sufficient Malay books, magazines and newspapers to reinforce their literature comprehension skills.

Cambridge IGCSE Malay First Language offers the opportunity to respond knowledgeably to a range of reading passages. You will use some of these passages to inform and inspire your own writing and write in a range of text types for different audiences. You will learn argumentative/discursive writing and narrative/descriptive writing. No. However, if you are planning to take Malay, SPM paper as a private candidate, learning Malay First Language Paper gives you an opportunity to have a better understanding of the subject content in Kertas Bahasa Melayu, Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Kertas I & II.
