Navigating your Personal Identity in the U.S. University Transition: Where You Came From, Who You Are, and Where You’re Going
Hosted by: Ruby Bhattacharya (Barnard College); Yamilet Medina López (Stanford University); Dean Mendes (Williams College); Simon Nascimento (University of Chicago)
In this workshop, students will reflect on their personal identities from a racial and cultural standpoint throughout different educational transitions. We will pose questions for reflection that ask students to think about their personal identities in 3 phases: 1) when first joining the UWC community 2) as a UWC community member, and 3) in the upcoming transition to university. Our goal is to engage participants in a discussion about their personal identities and cultural perceptions in the context of U.S. college transition. This discussion aims to promote meaningful dialogue and conversation around personal identity with regards to race relations and the additional nuance that exists beyond our own personal narratives. Note: This session will be interactive (be ready to turn your cameras and mics on). It will NOT be recorded.
All students and counselors should register HERE before the event. This is the Zoom link to access the session on June 14.
