Short Problems

Spreadsheets are a useful tool that allows students to focus on the problem solving part of a task by supporting them with the calculations.

In this task, the teacher will first model how to read each problem carefully and use the spreadsheet functions to assist in solving the problem, clearly stating their answer at the end. The benefit of using a spreadsheet over a calculator for this task is that the process is still evident.

Teachers will share the 'Word Problem' presentation and the Google Sheets template. Students make a copy of the template and continue with the problems independently following the model.
