Personal and Social Education

At UWCSEA we seek to provide an environment of mutual respect in which all students are nurtured, accepted and valued. Our aim is to deliver a curriculum, which supports our schools ethos and values. This is done through a clear and planned PSE curriculum delivered in an environment which is supportive to emotional health and well-being, and which motivates and equips the students to develop their social and emotional skills.

Our PSE education in the Junior School is a planned programme of learning opportunities and experiences that help children grow and develop as individuals and as members of families and of communities. PSE equips children and young people with knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive, fulfilled, capable and responsible lives.

In the Primary School we have implemented Circle Solutions as a tool for both individual and whole class well being. Circle Solutions is a philosophy for healthy relationships and a pedagogy for teaching them. It helps to support children, promote social and emotional learning, develop pro social behaviour, increase social inclusion and develop relational values in education and the wider community.

In Grades 2 and 3 pupils learn about themselves as growing and changing individuals with their own experiences and ideas, and as members of their communities. PSE offers learning opportunities and experiences, which reflect the increased independence and physical and social awareness of learners. They need to be equipped with the skills to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and keep themselves safe. They become more mature, independent and self-confident. They learn about the wider world and the interdependence of communities within it. They learn how to take part in school and community activities.
