Summary of the RIC Event
On Saturday 3rd December, students from East primary and middle school took part in the RIC (Robotics Innovation Challenge) hosted at NUS. The event lasted the entire day with participants setting up from 0900 and closing at 2000. We entered 3 teams for the Innovation Design Challenge: Azaan grade 5 (team Glitchers), Kriti & Ishanvi grade 5 (team HydroDory), Shriya & Advika grade 7 (team Stealthy Health). Each team was tasked with designing a robot that would assist in improving teenage health. Teams Glitchers and Stealthy Health made it to the finals where they presented their working prototypes to a full auditorium. They came runners-up.
East entered 2 teams into the SumoBot challenge, Gabriella grade 6 (team SumoKitten) and Ruhan grade 8 & Azaan grade 5 (team WLP). With team SumoKitten achieving Best Creativity for their robot and team WLP coming second place in the open tournament.
Here’s a brief overview of the challenges.
INNOVATION DESIGN CHALLENGE
Theme: "Robotics for Teenage Health". Students were asked to design a robot that could directly or indirectly help teenagers become healthier.
TECHNICALS
As a team, the objective was to design a robot that could compete in a series of 1-minute challenges;
Sumo, Hill Climb, Speed run.
GRAND ARENA
As a team, the objective was to design a robot that could collect balls within a set play area and then send them to the opponent's side.
