Welcome to Momentum...

Moving into 2022 we were all hopeful for a bigger and brighter future, free from the constraints of a global pandemic. We are hopeful that tonight is just the beginning of our reemergence.

COVID-19 has drastically changed the landscape of the performing arts. It has challenged us in more ways than we had imagined as dancers and choreographers. However, we have persevered.

We learnt in our bedrooms, our lounge rooms and our balconies. Around furniture, family members and pets.

We attempted to move via Zoom and and found that no-one can really have good timing online.

We danced alone, we danced socially distanced, we dance masked.

But tonight, we dance together.

I am extremely proud of everything our students have achieved over the past 2 years and especially in the last 4 months in preparation for our show tonight.

They have shown immeasurable resilience and commitment in the face of adversity over the past 2 years and this live performance is truly well deserved.

Momentum is an expression of evolution. The theme this year was set to inspire moving forward out of darkness into the light. It makes us reflect on where we have been and where we are about to go. In our 50th year of UWCSEA we continue to gain momentum. And as a Dance Department there is certainly "more in us".

Momentum explores human complexities and not only the journey, but also the destination. Our dancers and choreographers have taken this theme and created works that not only celebrate dance as an artform, but celebrate who we are as a community.

I would like to thank the stunning UWCSEA Dance Company members, the IB and GCSE curriculum dance students, and the activities dancers for their hard work and commitment during this process. I would also like to congratulate the tutors and student choreographers who have shown fantastic leadership and choreographic talent.

We hope you enjoy our 2022 Dance Showcase Series, Momentum.
