All courses offered at SHS are broken into semesters, apart from AP Art. In order to take a higher level course the proper prerequisites must be taken.

This course is for any student interested in learning the fundamentals of 2 dimensional art. This course assumes that everyone can and should learn basic artistic skills. Throughout the semester we will progress from the basics to more challenging subject matter and mediums. Students will be encouraged to try new tactics while learning problem solving and outside of the box thinking. Materials include graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, watercolor/acrylic paint, and printmaking.
This course is for students who completed 2D Foundations and are interested in pursuing specific painting mediums/techniques even further. Within this course, we will explore watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and oil painting techniques while placing an emphasis on self-reflection, problem-solving, and peer critique(s).
This course is designed for students who completed 2D Foundations and are interested in diving deeper into the realm of drawing and mixed media works. Students will use advanced artistic processes that build off of the skills learned in the foundations course. Emphasis will be placed on brainstorming and exploration. Materials may include pastel, graphite, charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylic, and printmaking supplies.

For students who have completed 3-D foundations and are interested in furthering their understanding of Three Dimensional mediums. Course includes an emphasis on peer revision, brainstorming, and problem solving. Possible materials include metal, wood, cardboard, plaster, and more.
This course focuses on multiple ceramic processes including hand building and wheel throwing. Students will learn to create functional and nonfunctional pieces throughout the semester. Course includes an emphasis on individual/ self-reflection, peer critique, problem solving, goal setting, and revision.
This course is for students who have completed ceramics and wish to continue building their ceramic skills. Students will learn advanced techniques in hand-building as well as refine their techniques on the potter’s wheel. Course includes emphasis on individual/ self –reflection, peer critique, problem solving, goal setting, and revision.
This course is designed for upperclassmen students who perhaps have never taken an art class before. Students will learn traditional crafts and hobbies with a modern twist that they will be able to continue outside the art classroom for years to come. Possible skills may include knitting, crocheting, beading and jewelry making, sewing, paper making, weaving, and calligraphy.
Computer art is a course designed for the digital artist. Students will learn the rigorous process of graphic design and photo manipulation by using a variety of techniques from hand drawing to digital painting. Computer programs used in this process include Adobe Photoshop and Adobe illustrator.
Art Studio is for individuals interested in creating a professional portfolio of artwork related to a particular style/subject/medium of their choosing. Students will become familiar with what art might look like in their futures by learning about time-management, self-motivation, and problem solving skills. This course may be repeated one time for elective credit.
AP Art (2D, 3D, or Drawing) is a course for students interested in pursuing an art-related career in the future. With the opportunity to earn college credit, students engage in building a professional 2D, 3D, or drawing portfolio based on a concentration (focus) of their choosing. This is a full year course with portfolio submission happening in the spring (May) if students choose to submit.
