Please note that "Fact Fluency" looks very different in Kindergarten and Grade 1 (and early Grade 2) than it does in Grades 3-8. In the early grades, "Fact Fluency" is really "Number Fluency." Teachers should provide daily opportunities for students to count (especially in kindergarten), explore, break apart, and find relationships between numbers to 20. Almost all of these experiences should be hands-on. All Kindergarten and Grade 1 teachers in the RRDSB received a copy of Christina Tondevold's book, Fluency through Flexibility, Numbers 0-20. This resource has dozens of number fluency activities that can be used throughout the year.
