Summit High School, in Bend, OR, was opened in 2001. The band program has a history of excellence, representing Summit High School and the surrounding community at local, state, regional, and national festivals and competitions. Notably, the Summit Wind Ensemble is a multiple-time OSAA state champion in the 5A division. Summit band students regularly earn placements at state and regional level honors opportunities like OMEA All-State, NAfME All-Northwest, and the Western International Band Clinic. Students also often earn district and state level placements in the OSAA Solo and OMEA Chamber Ensemble contests.

Summit High School Friends of Music is the booster organization supporting all music programs at Summit High School, including Band, Choir, and Orchestra.
Cooper Ottum has been the director of bands at Summit High School since 2018. Cooper is a native Oregonian from the Hillsboro/Beaverton area, but most recently lived in Ellensburg, WA, where he spent two years as a graduate teaching assistant for the Central Washington University bands. At CWU, Cooper was director of the CWU Basketball Band and interim director of the CWU Symphonic Band. Originally trained in music composition, Cooper also attended University of Southern California and University of Missouri-Kansas City, and had his music performed by various chamber ensembles on the west coast and in the midwest. In his free time, Cooper loves to make coffee, go mountain biking, cook, and travel with his wife Cara Strever.
