Dear Families,
Progress reports will be available on ParentVUE today at 3:15.
I want to share some important information about our 5th grade math homework routine and why completing it consistently and on time is so important for your child’s success.
Math homework is assigned each night as a check for understanding after that day’s lesson. Students are expected to complete two pages per night, which should take approximately 10–15 minutes. This short, focused practice helps reinforce skills taught in class and allows students to build confidence and independence with the material.
If you notice that homework is taking 30 minutes or more and has shifted from being challenging to utter frustration, please have your child come see me. That is a strong signal that they need additional support, clarification, or practice, and I am always happy to help. Homework should support learning—not become a nightly struggle.
At the end of each unit, students will turn in a completed homework packet. Turning this packet in on time is an important part of learning responsibility, organization, and time management. These habits are essential skills that will serve students well not only this year, but as they transition into middle school and high school, where expectations increase significantly.
Consistency is truly key. Completing homework nightly—even when it feels quick or easy—helps students stay on track, avoid last-minute stress, and develop routines that lead to long-term academic success.
Thank you for your continued support at home. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

We will watch the movie: Wonder. Since it is rated PG, I need parent permission. Please let me know if you would NOT like your child to watch the movie and I will provide an alternative activity for them. If you are okay with this, NO need to respond. Thanks!
Feb 16: Presidents' Day ~ no school
Feb 20: walking field trip to Summit HS to see the play Shrek (7 students still need to turn in permission slips)
Thank you to all the parents who offered to volunteer for our field trip! I truly appreciate your willingness to help. Since I was only able to take one chaperone, I used the fairest method (and one we use in class) and “picked sticks.” Congratulations to Bennett’s mom, Stephanie Hix, who was selected.
