Dear Families,
Happy Valentine’s Day! I love your children so much and feel lucky to be their teacher this year! Thank you to Janae for sending in yummy treats for our party. Check out the photos of the creative and fun Valentine boxes: click here
All 5th grade students are required to participate in this exciting event. Students began planning in class today and will complete their projects at home. Each student is asked to invent something that solves a problem they see in the world. The invention may be simple or complex. All ideas and work should be completed by the students. Adults may assist only if the prototype requires the use of potentially dangerous tools. Students may work independently or in a group of up to three. Each student must complete an Invention Planning Sheet, which is due Friday, February 20. After planning at home, students will create a poster and a prototype of their invention. (The prototype does not need to be functional.) The poster and prototype are due on February 27. We will display the inventions throughout the hallways—last year we showcased 165 projects! Students and staff will have the opportunity to view the creative work. Our Invention Convention Family Night will be held on March 3 from 5:00–6:30 p.m. Members of the Rotary Club of Greater Bend will visit Miller to select the top inventions. Winners and their families will be invited to a special luncheon where students can proudly present their work.
