What Do We Gain From Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)
演講摘要 Abstract
Evaluating teaching effectiveness remains a critical concern in educational research. Longitudinal designs offer a valuable approach, providing insights into changes in mean patterns and variations within and between individuals (e.g., students or teachers) over time, beyond what cross-sectional designs can offer. In this presentation, I will start with the basic pretest-posttest design and demonstrate the application of structural equation modeling (SEM) for analysis. I will then progress to more complex longitudinal data that incorporate multiple (>3) occasions and sets of variables, and utilize various SEM approaches including the panel model, latent growth model, and the extensions to analyze the data. Practical recommendations will be offered to the audience, enhancing understanding and application of SEM in educational assessment, especially in teaching effectiveness.

Effective teaching in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
演講摘要 Abstract
The notion of "Effective teaching" has dominated current education research and school reforms. However, effectiveness needs to be defined with reference to purpose of actions. Contextualizing effectiveness in the age of AI is a challenging but inevitable task that confronts current educators. This talk attempts to reflect how effective teaching was conceived in the recent past and discuss the dimensions educators need to account for in re-envisioning effective teaching. It analyses emerging designs of AI supported learning as cases to unpack the underlying notion of effectiveness, as a means to initiate some communicative actions.

Effective teaching with digital technology in Korean universities
演講摘要 Abstract
The recent digital transformation has led to a significant increase in the use of digital technologies in higher education institutions. A prime example of this is the integration of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, into teaching and learning. This study will examine the current status of generative AI education implementation in Korean universities. Using the case of SKKU, this study will introduce teaching methods utilizing generative AI, explore students' reactions, and provide educational implications for the use of generative AI in university education.
