English Writing
Exchange Journal Writing Activity
Introduction:
In my writing class, you are required to participate in the exchange journal writing activity. By asking you to write down your thoughts about what happens to you and around you, and by asking you to share your thoughts with your partner, the activity aims to help you relate your English writing skills to your daily life.
* You are assigned a secret partner for this journal writing activity. You have to exchange your journal with your partner every week. For the first week of the activity (week 5), you have to write a one-page entry in your journal. For the second week of the activity (week 6), you have to write another one-page entry not in your journal, but in your partner’s journal (the one page can also include your response to your partner’s entry). For the third week (week 7) you have to write a one-page entry in your own journal again. The writing and exchange should go on and on until the fifteenth week.
* In your first writing, please write a full page to introduce yourself. Please do not mention your name, your gender, your student number, or anything that would help your partner identify you.
* Write your secret code on the cover of your journal. Do not write your name until the twelfth week.
* Begin your one-page journal with the date that you write the journal. When you have finished your one-page entry, write your code at the bottom of the page. Put the journal in the box that corresponds to your code. The exchange boxes are located outside the office of Prof. Jocelyn Chen in the Language Centre. Then take the journal you have to write from the box that corresponds to your partner’s code.
* Logic of Partnership:
A1 and B1 are partners. A2 and B2 are partners. (And so on and so forth)
C1 and D1 are partners. C2 and D2 are partners. (And so on and so forth)
E1 and F1 are partners. E2 and F2 are partners. (And so on and so forth)
G1 and H1 are partners. G2 and H2 are partners. (And so on and so forth)
*Cooperate with your partner to produce quality journals.
* If your team’s work is behind schedule, make it up quickly.
* Write everything in English.
* In every journal there should be no less than 7 entries. Each entry should be at least one page (either single space or double space). The two journals should contain a total of no less than 14 entries.
* All the journals should be handed in class in the twelfth week of this semester.
*The name of the journal writer and his/her student number should be written on the cover of the journal when you hand it in by the end of the activity.
l Gentle reminders:
This activity accounts for 15% of the semester result.
For every entry short, 5 points will be taken off.
For a late journal (that does not meet the final deadline), 10 points will be taken off.
