A. The DNA repair project:
Targeting DNA repair pathways to potentiate the efficacy of DNA damage-based therapies, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, has emerged as a promising strategy in cancer treatment. Moreover, inhibition of DNA repair offers a means to selectively eliminate tumor cells while minimizing adverse side effects. By employing a single-strand annealing (SSA) system, our laboratory screens natural compounds that suppress DNA repair and investigates their underlying molecular pharmacological mechanisms, thereby providing insights that may guide the rational design and development of novel agents for combination therapy with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
B. Aging and aging-associated diseases:
Systems for screening lifespan-extending compounds remain limited. Our laboratory has established a novel high-throughput screening platform to identify drugs with lifespan-promoting effects and to investigate their molecular mechanisms. In light of the rapidly aging global population, such health-promoting agents may serve not only in the prevention and treatment of aging-associated disorders but also in substantially reducing future healthcare expenditures for the elderly, ultimately contributing to the goal of achieving healthy aging.
