Oil Tanker is a big ship designed to carry crude oil in a long voyage.
LNG Carrier is a ship which transport Liquefied Natural Gas. Different design types of LNG carriers & how LNG is loaded into the tanks will be showed in this animation.
Let's see how a tugboat works, and how its design gives it a strong towing capability.
General design of a container ship and how it keeps containers safe and secured on the rough sea.
Offshore drilling is the process of extracting petroleum from reserves located beneath the Earth's oceans instead of reserves located on the mainland. Offshore oil rigs have developed greatly over the past years, and have become gigantic structures that house hundreds of people at a time.
The U.S. Coast Guard proposes to update its maritime security regulations by adding regulations specifically focused on establishing minimum cybersecurity requirements for U.S.-flagged vessels, Outer Continental Shelf facilities, and U.S. facilities subject to the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 regulations. This proposed rule would help to address current and emerging cybersecurity threats in the marine transportation system. In this Maritime Matters: The Marinelink Podcast, we host a live panel discussion with five experts from the Coast Guard, classification, vessel owners and connectivity leaders to discuss what the rules may look like, as well as what work boat owners should do now to protect themselves, and the consequences not preparing.
In spite of so much discussion happening around there is still significant imbalance in gender diversity in the industry. In fact, IMO Secretary General also said that we need to accelerate the change, we need to bring in change much faster. How do we address these serious issues of gender biases, stereotypes and eliminating gender based assumptions to create a level playing field? How can maritime industry make a significant progress in achieving gender equality and unlock the full potential of its work force?
How is the human resources landscape in logistics? What are the associations or government doing to bring quality professionals into this industry?
During COVID the significance of logistics came out. Since then, we have seen not only a great interest among people signing up, but also a lot of people trying to learn logistics as a subject. If not a professional MBA or a degree in supply chain, they tried to read a book on logistics and supply chain, or doing a small, short-term program.
Give me a perspective of the container trade in general because I have been hearing from a lot of people that the demand seem to be still subdued and then it’s not picking up. So what is your experience as far as the container volumes are concerned?
You have a very wide range of experience in container business, car carriers, energy transportation, and then your current portfolio seems to be more on the land side. So, I am curious to know how you are adapting to the shift in the operations and what is exciting for you now?
Leadership Goes Beyond Management
In the maritime industry, leadership extends far beyond traditional management roles. While management focuses on planning, organizing, and executing operational tasks efficiently, leadership is about inspiring, guiding, and motivating teams to navigate challenges effectively. A true maritime leader fosters a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement, ensuring that crew members and shore-based personnel work towards a common vision with dedication and resilience.
Avoiding Ship Whale Strikes
The video highlights the concern of ship strikes on whales due to increasing maritime traffic and emphasises the importance of awareness, cautionary measures, and reporting.
It focuses on protecting the marine ecosystem and reducing human impact through strategies like enforcing speed limits and rerouting shipping lanes.
Looking, Seeing and Observing
The video underscores the importance of situational awareness in maritime safety, covering its critical stages, factors affecting decision-making, practical application at sea, challenges, consequences of reduced awareness, and best practices for enhancing safety.
It is essential for maritime professionals seeking to improve navigational practices and ensure safety through an enhanced understanding of situational awareness.
Over-Reliance on AIS
The video explains the Automatic Identification System (AIS), its benefits, integration with navigation systems, and the importance of using it effectively while avoiding over-reliance.
It also discusses the limitations and challenges of AIS and best practices for its use.
The video emphasizes the critical role of AIS in safe navigation and the need to maintain comprehensive situational awareness using all available tools.
Maritime Situational Awareness
The video empowers situational awareness in maritime navigation by emphasising the importance of understanding visual cues accurately.
It covers key points such as visual perception skills, mental imagery, real-world application examples, technology versus traditional skills, and practical tips for enhancing visual perception.
The video underscores that active engagement with one’s environment is vital for safe maritime navigation and heightened situational awareness among seafarers.

World's Mightiest Cargo Ships: Transport Wonders of the Sea | Complete Series | FD Engineering World’s Strongest Planes - Steel Beasts of the Sk
The six-day stranding of the Ever Given in the Suez Canal last March did something incredibly rare: it made regular people care about shipping, the means by which more than 80% of the world’s goods are transported. It took only one wrong turn for the container ship to bring a critical trading artery to a standstill. This is how a $1 billion worth of cargo got stuck, freed and impounded as the courts took over.
Learn about large two stroke marine diesel engines! These types of engine power some of the world’s largest ships. This 3D animation video gives you a unique look at just how these huge machines work. Ideal for anyone interested in marine engineering!
Ship's marine engines are responsible for the propulsion of the vessel from one port to another. It is vital for a marine engineer to understand various ship marine engine parts and their functions to ensure smooth operation and troubleshooting. This video names and explains the different parts of the marine diesel engines along with their general functioning. From connecting Rod to Crankshaft, piston to the liner, Bedplate to A-frame, each individual part works together with others to provide an output that drives the propeller and moves the massive ship. Marine engines used on ships are some of the most sophisticated and complicated engineering works. Marine engineers are therefore provided special training for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting marine engines onboard ships.

On a Seagoing ship - Steering Gear integrated with the rudder system defines the complete ‘turning mechanism’ mandatory for each and every ship irrespective of size, type, and operation. The huge cargo ship is turned and maneuvered using a hydraulic steering gear system. The question is - how does such a compact steering gear system on the ship works and move the rudder to turn the whole ship? This video explains the concept, construction, and working of a Ram-type hydraulic steering gear system.
