Social Studies

6th grade social studies

The sixth-grade social studies curriculum is based on ancient cultures of the eastern hemisphere. Students begin their study of a variety of ancient cultures including the Stone Age, Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, China, Greece, Rome, Arabia, and, if there is time, The Middle Ages. While we study these civilizations, we will also focus on the rise of the world’s major religions; Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam. Our exploration of these activities we will focus on 6 themes:

          1. Human-Environment Interactions

          2. Rise of Civilization

          3. Growth and Change in Societies

          4. Development of Political Institutions and Ideas

          5. Belief Systems

          6. Interconnectedness of Societies

Our class will use an online textbook published by TCI. Students can access the book at home and so can you. Here are the directions:

          1. Goto the Classlink page on the Chromebook

          2. Select the TCI icon

          3. It should log directly onto the textbook

Most tests will be taken on this website too. Students will not bring home paper copies of the test. You will be able to see the test results by logging onto the website and following these directions:

          1. Click the down arrow next to the “Resources” tab on the upper right

          2. Click on “Assessments”

          3. Select the appropriate lesson found in your child’s agenda
