Conducted in the fall of 2025, the LING BING project aimed to document personal narratives, experiences, and perspectives on the Gallaudet linguistics department, with the goal of preserving this historical record and making it available for future exploration. We recruited current and former students, faculty members, and/or departmental affiliates, as well as outside perspectives.
As members of the Linguistics Department ourselves, our objective was to document and reflect on how individuals with various backgrounds have interacted with, experienced, influenced, or been affected by their affiliation with the Linguistics Department at Gallaudet. While acknowledging that we, as researchers, are part of the communities we investigate, this work was conducted in conjunction with our communities, following their lead to determine which knowledge to document and preserve.
The LING BING project was conducted during the fall 2025 Field Methods course, part of the graduate program of linguistics at Gallaudet University.
We are no longer collecting data for this project. This data was collected in the fall of 2025 over the course of one semester.
