10/2
McKenzie Starkey - GMS Volleyball
McKenzie is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Volleyball Team. The middle school volleyball team has had a hot start, picking up another win this week. McKenzie has played a big role in that, working hard all season as one of the liberos. She not only came up with some awesome digs this week, but she also has an awesome attitude, doing whatever is asked for the team without complaining. She is the definition of a great all-around teammate.
Mason McKinnon - GMS Football
Mason is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Football Team. The MS Football Team picked up back to back wins, and Mason has been instrumental in what it takes to accomplish that all season. He has done it all - quarterback, running back, wing, receiver, linebacker, kicker, punter, returner - willingly and with no questions asked. The greatest quality he brings is leadership, whether its being the speaking captain, commanding and communicating both on defense and offense, or by example, never missing a practice. There was no difference in the win Monday, as he was clearing the way for the backs on offense and flying to the ball making plays on defense.
Julieth Bird - GMS Cheer
Julieth is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Cheer Team. The MS Cheer Team has really stepped it up this year and Julieth has played a big part in that. She has proven to be a natural born leader and knows exactly what cheers to call at the right times. As a captain, her charisma helps her not only win over her teammates, but she also knows how to win over the crowd and keep them engaged for the entire game.

Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
