Katherine Whitman - GMS XC
Katherine is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS XC Team. The MS XC Team had its first meet early Saturday morning in Blacksburg and Katherine showed up in a big way. In a field of 18 middle school teams and 221 runners, Katherine was the top female runner and top overall runner from Galax. She placed 38th with a time of 9:14.2 for her 2K.
Nathaniel Burnette - GMS Football
Nathaniel is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Football Team. The MS Football Team had its first real game Monday and Nathaniel was putting in work on both sides of the ball. As one of the anchors on defense, Nathaniel shut down the running lane on the right side of the ball, letting the guys behind him scrape tight and make the play. He is one of the big reasons Northwood finished the game with a negative amount of total rushing yards.
Naomi Anders - GMS Volleyball
Naomi is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Volleyball Team. The MS Volleyball Team get rolling this week with two more games and have started the season 3-1. Naomi has played a big role in that, leading the team by example every point, being encouraging, vocal, and composed under pressure. In the back row, she neutralizes other team's serving with her clean and consistent passing. In the front, she uses her soft hands to set up her teammates with great scoring opportunities.

Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
