Katherine Whitman - GMS XC/Swim
Katherine is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of both the GMS XC Team and the GMS Swim Team. Katherine put together an impressive debut in Bristol this week, picking up two 2nd place finishes in the 100 IM and the 200 Free. She also helped the girls swim team finish 1st and capture two first place event finishes - one in the 100 Medley Relay, along with Osa Long, Evelyn Bedwell, and Kayleigh Barnes, and one in the 200 Free Relay, along with Osa Long, Alexis Roberts, and Syrena Chavez. Katherine didn't stop there. In fact, the next day she and XC team made another trip to Bristol for their last regular season meet. Katherine placed 5th overall and helped the girls team achieve 5th place of out 16 schools!
Nolan Spurlin - GMS Swim
Nolan is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Swim Team. The Middle School Swim Team had its first meet of the season on Monday at Margaret H. St. John Pool in Bristol. Nolan led our boys as the top points getter and stacked up two individual event first place finishes in the 50 Fly and the 50 Back. Nolan, along with Xander Stewart, helped the boys pick up enough points for a 4th place overall finish. It was a great first meet for all of our GMS Maroon Tide swimmers.

Game Schedules
Making Waves
MS Football battled it out at Grayson County this past week filled with highlights from both sides. They will not play Scott Memorial this week, but instead will help out the JV team against John Battle. The following week, they will conclude their season with a Monday home game vs Giles.
MS Volleyball had another pair of games this week, and put together two great wins at Bland and Fort Chiswell. They improved to 12-3 on the season with one game left to go at home vs Grayson on Tuesday.
MS XC had a successful meet this week even after most of our runners had a swim meet the day before. Katherine took a 5th place overall finish, and the girls finished 5th out of 16 schools. The boys finished 6th. Monday, they will give everything they have left in the MS MED Championship.
MS Cheer traveled to Grayson this week to support the football team in the Twin County rivalry game. They helped our crowd match the energy in a hostile environment.
MS Swim dove into their season this week, and to say they had a successful meet is an understatement. We had many 1st place individual and relay finishes, as well as a 1st place girls team finish. We also had many more event top ten finishes in both boys and girls, with the boys picking up a 4th place overall team finish.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
