Jesse Willis - GMS Football
Jesse is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Football Team. The Middle School Football team had their bye week this week, but Jesse still took to the field in the JV game at Bland with some of his fellow 8th graders. Even undersized, Jesse has given his full effort at nose tackle for the JV team the last two weeks. Jesse, along with several other 8th graders have played early and often on the JV team, playing crucial roles on both sides of the ball. Jesse embodies our 8th grade football players' mentality of "keep grinding, " as they have all faced sickness, injuries, position changes, and even team changes. This group of young men have definitely been becoming forged in the fire.
Jasmine Urbina - GMS Volleyball
Jasmine is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Volleyball Team. MS Volleyball had two tough district games this week vs Giles and at Scott Memorial. The GMS Volleyball team is on fire, and had only dropped one match to Giles up until this week. Well, this past Tuesday, they had their chance for their get-back, and they did just that! Jasmine played a big part in that, showing some big time hustle and getting her teammates working together in sync. Her coach said, "She has served great, hit the ball really well on the outside, and gotten up a ton of short balls." Jasmine, like the rest of her teammates, are competitors and willing to do it all to get the "W."

Game Schedules
Making Waves
MS Football had the week off with a bye, but look to get back into the action this week with a game against Fort Chiswell. Their only losses of the season are to 2A Graham and 3A Carroll. They look to carry the success they've had otherwise, including a 49-18 victory over Radford, into the rest of their district games!
MS Volleyball came up with a hard fought 2-1 win over Giles this week, who up until this week had been their only loss. They carried that momentum with them to Scott Memorial, but came up just short in a heartbreaker in the final set. They are currently sitting 9-2 with only five games left to go in the season.
MS Golf traveled to Auburn Hills this week, which proved to be a challenging course. The team was also stacked up against some tough competition, but managed to still come up with a 3rd place finish. Deacon also came in 3rd individually and Alex shot his personal best at 49.
MS XC made a trip to Dobson, NC for a very challenging meet against some top competition. The girls placed 5th and the boys placed 6th. Timmy had a 5th place individual finish and Raylei placed 10th. They will take next week off, and then they have one more race the following week to tune up for the district meet.
MS Cheer will be back in action in this week after a bye week for the boys. You can also catch them, along with the other teams, in the homecoming parade on Thursday. Travel with them to Fort on Monday and help them cheer on MS Football.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
