Raylei Tucker - GMS Cross Country / Cheer
Raylei is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Cross Country Team. The Middle School XC team headed down to PH Glade Spring before the sun came up last Saturday morning for their first meet of the season. With a couple hundred competitors, Raylei led the pack, not only for our Maroon Tide Girls, but she was the highest finisher amongst all of the runners we have. She did this while also doubling down this fall, balancing XC with being a member of our MS Cheer squad as well.
Donaven Fulton - GMS Football
Donaven is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Football Team. While injuries and sickness plagued the team, football decided to take the handful that could play to do battle in the face of adversity. They went to Graham for a true David vs Goliath matchup. They came up short, but it wasn't for a lack of try. No one embodies this mentality quite like Donaven. He brings energy on every play. As one coach said, "one thing about Donaven is you know he is going to give you everything he has every single time." He came up with big tackles and pass breakups, and used his speed as a receiver and kick returner to do anything and everything he could to keep his team in the game. Constantly heckled, he makes it his mission to prove everyone wrong and that heart always comes out on top. As the kids say, "He's got that dog in 'em."
Other News
We will have theme nights for all home MS Football and Volleyball games. Some even come with swag. Come out and support your fellow students and friends.
Game Schedules
Making Waves
MS Football traveled to Graham for their second game of the season. A last quarter comeback was led by Clay Edwards who found the end zone for touchdowns. Brody Long added a two point conversion for a total of 14 points. The Tide fell short but fought hard.
MS Volleyball traveled to Giles for their first district game. They fought hard but fell short in two sets. They look to mount a comeback with THREE games next week.
MS Golf had the week off, got better, and learned how to better play matches as a team. They are back in action on Monday!
MS XC had a good first meet at PH Glade Spring and will travel again this Saturday for their next meet. Raylei Tucker led the way for the girls and Griffin Bolen powered through to the front for the boys.
MS Cheer particpated with the program in hosting a cheer clinic for our elementary aged children. They did a great job, and the kids will get to cheer with the cheerleaders at a future game.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
