Clay Edwards - GMS Track/Baseball
Clay is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of both the GMS Baseball Team and the GMS Track and Field Team. The MS Baseball Team had a battle with Auburn to start off the week. Clay also had to prepare for a track meet just a couple days after that. With most of the team out on a class field trip, it was best for the track team to reschedule and go when everyone was available. Clay, however, wanted to see where he stood and went to this week's scheduled meet on his own. He found out where he was in the pack, and that was at the front, with a 1st place finish in shotput, with a distance of 40'4 and a 1st place finish in discus, with a distance of 117'4.
Lexi Underwood - GMS Softball
Lexi is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Softball Team. Lexi had a tough task ahead of her in the circle for Galax going up against a tough Auburn team. She gave everything she had for the team and never gave up. She only allowed three earned runs in almost three innings, and accumulated four strikeouts. Offensively, Lexi also contributed to the five run effort of the Maroon Tide, with a hit and ultimately, crossing the plate for a run later in the inning.

Game Schedules
Making Waves
MS Baseball had a tough game against Auburn to start the week and came up short. They have been practicing the rest of this week and hope to fine tune their game plan over spring break. After spring break they will come back to back to back MED matchups with Grayson and Giles.
MS Softball also had a tough game against Auburn to start the week and came up short. They have been practicing the rest of this week and hope to fine tune their game plan over spring break. After spring break they will come back to back to back MED matchups with Grayson and Giles.
MS Soccer had a great game against Scott Memorial to start off the week, but also ended up coming just short of the win, with a 4-2 loss to the Maroons. They will come back after spring break to back to back road matchups at Fort and Virginia Middle.
MS Track has been gearing up for their first meet, which does not take place until after spring break. That doesn't stop them from working hard now though. We have many spring athletes playing other spring sports that are doublng down and doing track as well.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
