3/20
John Austin - GMS Baseball
John is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Baseball Team. The MS Baseball Team had their first game this week and captured a WIN against Scott Memorial. John had a big part in that. On the mound, John came in and pitched in relief after Brody Long's pitch count climbed to 50. John then closed the game out and pitched four full innings that included seven strikeouts, zero walks, and only one earned run. Offensively, he grounded out twice, but both of those grounders advanced runners who would both go on to score later in the inning.
Sara Ramirez - GMS Soccer
Sara is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Soccer Team. The Soccer Team picked up a WIN this week to open up their season at home vs Fort Chiswell. Sara may be in 7th grade, but this is her first year playing soccer. In her very first game, she played a big role in capturing her team's opening win. She stepped up for the back line and was one of the most solid defenders all match. Her teammates can count on her to always have their back defensively, as she was calm under pressure and made some incredibly smart plays. She had some big stops and was then able to find her open teammates ahead on a pass.

Game Schedules
Making Waves
MS Baseball debuted at home this past Thursday against Scott Memorial Middle School. Brody Long started on the mound and Scott went scoreless through the top of the first. The Tide, however, came out swinging and totaled four runs. John Austin took the mound in the third and pitched four full innings to close the game. The Maroon Tide got the WIN with a final score of 4-3.
MS Softball also opened up their season at home this past Thursday against Scott Memorial Middle School. They are a young inexperienced team and made some costly errors from the beginning of the game. The Maroon Tide came up short in this one, but it is nothing they can't improve on. They are hitting the practice field to clean up their mistakes and will be competing with the best teams as they continue to grow.
MS Soccer also opened up their season at home this past Wednesday against Fort Chiswell Middle School. Anchored by their defense, Sara Ramirez stepped up for the back line in her first game. Ayden Lay only allowed one goal. They played well together in a team, moving the ball with sharp concise passes and keeping their shape. The result was two goals for Eleuterio Mata, and the Tide got the win over Fort with a final score of 2-1.
MS Track has been gearing up for their first meet, which does not take place until after spring break. That doesn't stop them from working hard now though. We have many spring athletes playing other spring sports that are doublng down and doing track as well. We also have several athletes that are specializing in throwing. All in all, we have close to 40 students participating in track, and we can't wait to see what they accomplish.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
