12/19
Jordan Hanks - GMS Basketball
Jordan is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Boys Basketball Team. The MS Boys Basketball Team had their final game this week and captured a WIN against Bland. Jordan had a big part in that. On defense, even when he is not blocking shots, his presence in the paint alters them. He's been the leading rebounder this year and brings that toughness every game. On offense, he's likely to score any time he touches the ball in the paint. An all-around effort helped the Tide end their season with a win at home.
Lexi Underwood - GMS Basketball
Lexi is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Girls Basketball Team. The MS Girls Basketball Team picked up three wins in a row this week to close their season out with a 12-2 record. Lexi played a big role in that, being one of the most solid defenders all year. Her teammates can count on her to always have their back defensively. She rebounded well all season as well. Her greatest strength, however, is being a great teammate, encouraging them and keeping them laughing all season. Her coach is so proud of how she has stepped into a bigger role this year.

Making Waves
MS Wrestling wrapped up their season on a high note with three wins over Alleghany, Rural Retreat, and East Wilkes in their home quad yesterday. Those wins brought their season record to 18-0, culminating in an undefeated season! Many individuals also had big nights and missed the season with only one loss.
MS Boys Basketball faced Fort Chiswell at home which turned out to be one of the most intense games of the season. The team played some of the best basketball they have played all season with an aggressive and resilient attitude, but ultimately lost a close one in the final seconds. They will wrap up their season next week as they pack in three more games.
MS Girls Basketball played Fort Chiswell at home this week and came out with another undisputed victory in a tough environment. The fundamentals were on display as defense, rebounding, and transition points in the paint were some of the main deciding factors. They will wrap up their season next week as they pack in three more games.
MS Cheer supported the basketball teams vs Fort this week in a packed middle school gym. They look forward to cheering on the teams next week as they wrap up their season and hope you will join them for Ugly Christmas Sweater Night on Wednesday vs Bland.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
