12/12
Alex Brown - GMS Basketball
Alex is an 6th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Basketball Team. The MS Boys Basketball Team braved the weather this week to get in one game against Fort that came down to the final seconds. Alex played a big part in keeping them in the game until the end, contributing 23 points, 8 steals, and 7 rebounds. He led a second half surge, ending the second quarter with a bucket and carrying that momentum to the beginning of the 4th with 17 points in a row. Alex and a couple other 6th graders, like Abel, Justus, and others have been making an impact and contributing to the team this year more than you would normally expect 6th graders to do.
Claire Warf - GMS Basketball
Claire is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Basketball Team. The MS Girls Basketball Team picked up another win over Fort this week and Claire played a big role in that, almost closing in on a double double with points and rebounds. Not only this week, but all season, Claire has consistently scored in and controlled the paint for the team. She and a couple of her teammates have stepped up this whole year as 7th graders. Claire not only is completing tough finishes around the rim, but stepping back and consistently knocking down jump shots as well.
WRESTLING
GMS Wrestling finished an incredible season last night right here at home. They came into the quad 15-0 and ready to face Alleghany, Rural Retreat, and East Wilkes. After wins over the first two opponents, the Tide found themselves down by a couple points to East Wilkes with only one wrestler to go. After a back and forth battle, Jorge Acosta got the pin for the Maroon Tide, giving the team enough points to win the match and cap off an 18-0 undefeated season. The team was led by a core group of 8th graders, most of which only had one individual loss all year, like Byram, Wyatt, Jesse, Jorge, Javien, and James to name a few. Several newcomers and younger ones, like Donaven, were very impressive this season, completing a single loss individual year as well. All in all, we could name every single member of this team, but this season was truly a team effort. Every wrestler stepped up at different times this year, every coach did a tremendous job developing these wrestlers, and all the parents were willing to pitch in whenever and wherever needed. The future looks bright for the Galax Wrestling Program.
Wyatt Padgett - GMS Wrestling
Wyatt is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Wrestling Team. As the MS Wrestling Team picked up these last three wins and finished undefeated, Wyatt stood as the only individual that was also undefeated until his last match. Wyatt, however still overperformed and finished with only one loss on the year. He was a force to be reckoned with and really took it upon himself to step up and lead some of the younger guys this year.
Byram Whitaker - GMS Wrestling
Byram is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Wrestling Team. As the MS Wrestling Team picked up these last three wins and finished undefeated, Byram played a big role in that, going 3-0 on the night himself. Byram has been instrumental this year both on and off the mat for the GMS Wrestling Team. Byram is another 8th grade leader with only one loss that came at a time when he "took one for the team," wrestling not one, not two, but three weight classes up.
Jorge Acosta - GMS Wrestling
Jorge is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Wrestling Team. As the MS Wrestling Team picked up these last three wins and finished undefeated, the final match, the night, and the undefeated season fell on Jorge's shoulders. After wins over Alleghany and Rural, a win over East Wilkes is the only thing that stood in the way of an undefeated season for GMS Wrestling. Jorge was the final wrestler of the night and the Maroon Tide found themselves in an unfamiliar position, down by a couple points. After a challenging match, it was ended with a pin by Jorge, giving the Tide enough points to surpass East Wilkes and finish an incredible season.

Making Waves
MS Wrestling wrapped up their season on a high note with three wins over Alleghany, Rural Retreat, and East Wilkes in their home quad yesterday. Those wins brought their season record to 18-0, culminating in an undefeated season! Many individuals also had big nights and missed the season with only one loss.
MS Boys Basketball faced Fort Chiswell at home which turned out to be one of the most intense games of the season. The team played some of the best basketball they have played all season with an aggressive and resilient attitude, but ultimately lost a close one in the final seconds. They will wrap up their season next week as they pack in three more games.
MS Girls Basketball played Fort Chiswell at home this week and came out with another undisputed victory in a tough environment. The fundamentals were on display as defense, rebounding, and transition points in the paint were some of the main deciding factors. They will wrap up their season next week as they pack in three more games.
MS Cheer supported the basketball teams vs Fort this week in a packed middle school gym. They look forward to cheering on the teams next week as they wrap up their season and hope you will join them for Ugly Christmas Sweater Night on Wednesday vs Bland.
