11/21
Ayden Lay - GMS Wrestling
Ayden is a 7th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Wrestling Team. Ayden has struggled at times this year and came face to face with adversity. He chose to go to battle with it, just like the rest of the wrestling team has been doing all season. This week was a great example of that. After several matches and long trips this week, Ayden found himself in a match down 10-1. His coaches rallied around him and Ayden made a choice to give it everything he had. He battled back and won by pin. That match helped the wrestling team stay undefeated and reach an 11-0 record on the season.
Quintasia Watson - GMS Basketball
Quin is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Girls Basketball Team. She has really stepped up into a bigger role this year. As a captain, she is a quintessential cog that makes the basketball team go. She's been making an impact on the court, already putting up a career high this year, but her greatest impact has come off of the court. Her coach said, she is a spark plug and always tries her hardest to do everything asked of her. She is the definition of a teammate, always being the biggest encourager. When she isn't in the game, she keeps the bench cheering. The don't call her Quinbuckets for nothing.

Making Waves
MS Wrestling has been busy with 11 matches already this season. All 11 of those matches have resulted in a WIN for the Maroon Tide. They will do battle next week on Tuesday in Grayson before Thanksgiving break. Go ahead and mark your calendars now for 12/11 as they wrap up their season with a home quad on an 80's theme night!
MS Boys Basketball had a couple games this week that were close again. First, they traveled to Grayson where it came down to the very last shot. They suited back up for a home game vs Auburn on Thursday, but unfortunately came up short again after a late surge that started to set up a come back. They will have back to back away games Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving break! Start making plans now for the White Out game vs Grayson on 12/2.
MS Girls Basketball also had a couple games this week. First, they traveled to Grayson in a total team win where everyone got involved. Then, they pretty much repeated that performance vs Auburn in front of the whole crowd. Several players rose to the challenge when they needed to step up into bigger roles. At the end of the week, they walked away with two more big wins!
MS Cheer supported the basketball teams both home and away this week. First they traveled to Grayson and rallied the crowd for a packed out game right down the road. Then, they brought it again at home vs Auburn. They are selling shirts for their All-American Cheerleaders at the games, so stop by to support.
MS Swim wrapped up their season with a championship meet in Bristol on Tuesday! They had a great year with the girls placing 1st, the boys placing 5th, and the team with a combined 2nd place finish overall! They also had numerous top ten finishers, including a half page or more of 1st place individual and relay finishes!
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
