Zek McKinney - GMS Basketball
Zek is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Boys Basketball Team. The boys opened up their season this week at Carroll, and Zek played a vital role in a hard fought game. Zek and Jordan led the team in points with 11 a piece, and Zek came up with some big rebounds and assists as well. He came up with a clutch 3-pointer and a steal that led to drawing a foul after heavy pressure up top from the defense of Abel, Brody, and Connor.
Laynie Lundy - GMS Basketball
Laynie is an 8th grader at GMS and currently a member of the GMS Girls Basketball Team. She has really stepped up into a leadership role this year. This week, she put up 18 out the girls 21 points in their win at Carroll. She came up with big free throws down the stretch and was able to keep her head in the game after a very physical matchup. She was able to push the ball ahead to Emmy, Bella, and Lexi running the floor, who were trying to work it to Claire inside.

Making Waves
MS Wrestling will open up tomorrow at Southeastern Stokes Middle School in North Carolina at the Turkey Takedown Tournament. If you can't make it, no problem! They are hosting a home quad this Thursday! Come cheer on a packed squad of over 30 GMS wrestlers.
MS Boys Basketball opened up this week at Carroll. The boys played first and battled until the end. Down by 10 at the end of the 3rd, they only had 6 minutes to catch up. They did, and then some leading for the last couple of minutes until a last minute bucket put Carroll up by 1. The boys finished the game down by 1 point, but showed a lot of promise, grit, and toughness until the very end.
MS Girls Basketball also opened up this week at Carroll. The girls played the late game, but it didn't take any time for it to be a battle right away. They got out to an early lead, but Carroll eventually brought it back in a very fast-paced and physical game. In the end, the girls were victorious, 18-14!
MS Cheer made it feel like a packed house at Carroll this week, as the Tide opened their basketball season. They did a great job bringing the energy, and it was the loudest middle school basketball game most people have ever experienced!
MS Swim had the week off from competition, but are still getting in the pool and practicing hard. They are gearing up for the championship meet in Bristol on November 18th!
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
