Athletes of the Week

10/18
- Ben Sheets and Katherine Whitman - MS XC
  - Ben and Katherine have an almost identical story this week. Both have been consistently improving with every meet this year. They have also proved themselves by constantly finishing as the number two runner in almost every meet this season for the boys and girls teams respectively. This week, they both did something new and reached peak performance in the last regular season meet of the year at Carroll. Eight schools from Virginia brought almost 150 athletes. Katherine finished in the top 10 for the girls and Ben made his way into the top 5 for the boys. They maximizing their potential at the right time, as the district championship meet takes place Monday at the Galax Municipal Course.

Winter Sports Parent Meeting
- October 29th will be our meeting for all Winter Sports. The schedule will be as follows:
  - - Head Coaches Meeting - 5:00PM
    - Parents Meeting - 5:30PM
    - Sport Specific Breakout Meetings - 6:00PM

Making Waves

MS Girls basketball had tryouts this past week and already getting practice in for their first jamboree coming up this weekend at Lord Botetourt.

Volleyball had their last game of the season last week at Bland and came out victorious! That win marked their 14th, and they finished 14-1 on the season!

Cross Country performed great at Carroll this past week with the Boys claiming 1st, and the Girls earning 2nd. They will run for the final time this year today in the district championship meet at the Galax Municipal Course.

Cheer finished up their fall season as well, but they pull double duty. They are now gearing up and getting ready for basketball cheer.

Lifeguards

Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition.
