The Current
Athletes of the Week
9/27
We have some catching up to do! First up, we’re going all the way back to the week of 9/27 when the O-LINE cleared the trenches in a big win over Auburn! Chevy, Byram, Jesse, Bryar, and Landon, along with some ends, backs, and others taking reps on the line challenged themselves to dominate the line of scrimmage! They did just that, allowing the skill players to put up 41 points! On the girls’ side, Rylee becomes the first student to rack up two athlete of the week honors! She was a back to back to back menace at the net, and in one game put up 22 kills!
10/4
We missed 2 Fridays, so here is the 2nd set of athletes from the 2nd Friday we were out. What better way 2 recognize them than 2 pick 2 duos 2 step up this past week of 10/4! Connor stepped up as QB, leading the team as next man up. He made plays on both sides of the ball, picking up some big hits as well. Clay has been consistent all year, but came up with some critical stops and big gains this past week when the team needed him the most. On the girls’ side, Laynie played well all week. Auburn almost messed up the undefeated streak, but Laynie served for a big run in the third game. Mylee served from 18-23 to 25-23 in the second game against Auburn. She also served out match point, and consistently passed well the entire match!

Making Waves
MS Football played Auburn on 9/23 and after trailing 13-14 close to halftime, they came back in a big way and won 41-14. They then took on Scott Memorial for the first Friday Night Lights - middle school style. They gave great effort, but unfortunately did not come out victorious in this matchup.
Volleyball is still on a hot streak. In the last two weeks, they played Radford, Fort, Grayson, Fort again, Auburn, and Scott Memorial. Each game resulted in another win.
Golf season has come to an end. Many thanks to Easton and Asher, who were our lone golfers this year. They have improved so much and we look forward to what they will do next year.
Cheer was Galax Ready as always. These girls have really stepped it up, adding signs, dances, and stunts!
Cross Country didn't have any meets while we were out, but they have still been practicing hard. Galax will host the MS district meet, so come on out and watch!
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition.
