The Current
Athletes of the Week
Brody Long - MS Football
Brody is in the 7th grade and currently a member of the MS Football team. This week in the MS Football game, the Tide got the victory over the Pioneers, 33-0. Brody, QB, got in on the action with some great passes, including some that resulted in touchdowns. With only a few games under his belt as a 7th grader, he was asked how he was put in this position. He said, "like everyone else, I just make it point to come into practice focused, and keep working hard every day." He said this is a such a team effort, and if they can bring this focus and work ethic every day, they should end the season, "pretty good and should win out."
Allie Vaughan - MS Volleyball
Allie is in the 7th grade and currently a member of the MS Volleyball team. The Tide had two games this week, picking up wins in both to reach 5-0 on the season. Allie is a 6 rotation right side hitter. Allie said the key to her position is being consistent in serving, and just trying to get "some good ups, and some good hits." Allie said that this team is special, mainly because they "are all friends, we all get along really well, and we take the floor each match just happy and excited to get to play volleyball together." Allie said that with this chemistry, she expects this team to finish the season very strong, and said there is a pretty good chance they could end up, "undefeated!"
Making Waves
MS Football put together an awesome WIN over Fort Chiswell this week! Brody at QB connected with several teammates including a nice pass and catch over the middle for a TD. Byram led the charge on the offensive line, and the protection this game by everyone up front is what really opened things up. Easton is consistently bringing big runs week after week. Stetson was all over the place on defense, collecting multiple pass break ups and big hits.
Volleyball had a great week. They put together some awesome team rallies versus Radford and Bland and remain undefeated. Haley has remained very consistent running the offense. Laynie brings monster hits night after night, and Allie showed up this week with great passing. She, along with almost everyone on the team is really putting out fire serves, helping them put these wins together.
Golf got to play at home again this week and faced some tough matchups. Easton and Asher have been improving and are looking to finish this season strong.
Cheer was Galax Ready this week and spurred the crowd on! They have some cool dances and stunts in the works to close out the season with!
Cross Country has had several meets lately, and everyone is improving in each one. We have had several big individual finishes recently with Timmy and Ben leading the way for the boys and Myah and Katherine doing the same for the girls.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition.
