The Current
Athletes of the Week
Timmy Jordan - MS XC
Timmy is in the 7th grade and currently a member of the MS XC team. This past Saturday, he competed in Blacksburg at 8:20AM along with his team. He placed the highest among Maroon Tide males, finishing in the top 25 in a field of around 100. Timmy's whole family runs, and he said "just being competitive with my brothers is what really helps him." When asked what helps him mentally finish races, he said "I just want to be faster than everybody else." Timmy is running at a pretty good pace now, but when asked where he wants his pace at in high school he said, "I just want to be faster than my bothers when they were my age."
Myah Parks - MS XC
Myah is in the 8th grade and currently a member of the MS XC team. Last week Myah and XC team went to Blacksburg. She said that she "was actually really scared coming into the meet because she knew the reputation of the other teams." When Myah found out she "placed 13th out of nearly 100 runners she was really excited." Myah ran around a 7:30 mile pace which is great for middle school. She hopes to "get it down to 7:00 by the end of the year, and hopefully down to 6:00 by the end of high school." The XC team was also competing against much larger schools like a 4A Blacksburg, making this feat even more impressive .
Making Waves
MS Football had their home opener at Graham. Coming off a win at Grayson, the team was unable to matchup with Graham in the same way. They will take the results and learn from them so they can come out stronger against Carroll tonight.
Volleyball had the week off. Radford was so scared of us (joking) that they ended up cancelling the game. They still practiced, even on labor day, and are ready for their matchups this week.
Golf traveled to Auburn this past week. Both of our golfers improved their scores, as Asher shot 50 and Easton 51 on 9 holes. They will face off again this week, as the travel to Pulaski on Wednesday.
Cheer did their best to help the football team out Monday vs Graham. They also got the whole school on their feet at the pep rally. They are ready to bring that same energy tonight vs Carroll.
Cross Country ran in Blacksburg over the weekend. Timmy Jordan was our top male runner, and Myah Parks was our top female runner, coming in 13th overall out of nearly 100 runners.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition.
