Athletes of the Week
4/18
Jordan Hanks - Twin County Raptors
Jordan Hanks is a 6th grader at GMS and currently part of the Twin County Raptors Basketball Team. This past weekend his team traveled to Winston for a tournament in which Jordan dominated the boards. In the championship game, he scored 15 points and helped lead his team to victory. He stayed the rest of the day and played three more games with the next age group up.
Connor Boyles - GMS Baseball
Connor Boyles is a 7th grader at GMS and is currently part of the Galax Middle School Baseball Team. Connor has helped an ever improving team by playing multiple positions and getting some good hits at the plate. This week, it was his turn to take the mound at Bland. Connor helped lead them to their first victory of the season and was the game winning pitcher. The baseball team had back-to-back wins the next night.
Laynie Lundy - GMS Softball
Laynie Lundy is a 7th grader at GMS and is currently part of the Galax Middle School Softball Team. This past week, Laynie helped her team continue a great season by batting over .800. She played in the field with no errors, pitched with a bunch of strikeouts, and had multiple hits, RBI's, and runs scored. Her biggest hit came on Monday vs Giles - a walk-off grand slam! The softball team finished out the week 7-1.
Lexi Underwood - Twin County Cobras
Lexi Underwood is a 6th grader at GMS and is currently part of the Twin County Cobra Volleyball Team. This past weekend Lexi and her team traveled to Knoxville. Lexi had a breakthrough tournament, leading her team to the gold bracket with her hustle and passing. Her serving is what separated her from the competition, however, controlling the outcome of most sets from the service line.

Making Waves
MS Softball is over halfway through the season and still unbeaten at 9-0. Defensively, Ali Wilson and Laynie Lundy are striking everyone out left and right, with a great field behind them. Offensively, we've already had at least one homerun per game. They took down Giles, Bland, Floyd this week and hope to do the same next week versus Fort and Grayson.
MS Baseball is getting better every day. They captured a win over Bland this past week and hope to continue building that momentum against Fort and Grayson this week.
MS Track traveled to George Wythe this past week where several our student athletes placed top 5 in their events against many schools. Myah Parks and Kyrie Sexton each got a 1st place finish. They will rest up this next week for two meets the week after that will culminate their season.
MS Soccer had their toughest opponents yet this week. Playing Christiansburg and Auburn, they gave it their all but came up short. They look to pick it back up next week versus Virginia Middle, Fort, and Marion.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
