Quintasia Watson - Twin County Cobras
Quintasia "Quin Buckets" Watson is a 7th grader at GMS and is currently playing basketball with the Twin County Cobras. She played in her first tournament this past weekend in Greensboro and helped lead her team to a runner-up finish. She does it her way, as she is known to be the definition of a great teammate with a positive attitude.
Kylie Ward - Spartan Series
Kylie Ward is an 8th grader at GMS and is currently competing in the Spartan U.S. National Series. This past weekend she competed in her first Spartan Sprint in Charlotte. She decided to push herself by competing up in the 14-18 age group., and she placed 3rd overall.
Andy Chavez - GMS Soccer
Andy Chavez is a 7th grader at GMS and is currently on the GMS Soccer Team. Andy stepped up big time this week for the team. Their normal goalkeeper was out sick and GMS Soccer had two big games against difficult opponents. Andy volunteered to put the gloves on, and he came up with several key blocks, some at point blank range, especially versus Christiansburg, keeping them scoreless in the 2nd half to help fuel a GMS comeback.
Vivi Hernandez - GMS Soccer
Marlin "Vivi" Hernandez is a 6th grader at GMS and is currently on the GMS Soccer Team. In the first game of the week, Scott Memorial was relentless in pursuit of a comeback, but Vivi's defense stopped them over and over again to help secure the 5-3 win. In the second game of the week, the trend continued against an all boy 3A school in Christiansburg. Her effort helped to hold them scoreless in the 2nd half while the offense brought them back to a 2-2 tie.

Making Waves
MS Softball is off to a hot start, opening the season 5-0. Defensively, Ali Wilson and Laynie Lundy are striking everyone out left and right, with a great field behind them. Offensively, we've already had a couple of homeruns by Mylee Joines, Mady Goad, Madison Sluss, and Kaiden Cornelison. This past week, all of their games were rained out. They are hoping to make a big splash this week against Giles, Bland, and Floyd.
MS Baseball is getting better every day. They have had many highs already this season and looking forward to putting all of those together consistently this coming week. This past week, all of their games were rained out. They are hoping to display the pay off of their hard work in practice this week against Giles, Bland, and Floyd.
MS Track was rained out this week, but hopes to sprint back into action, as they take on several teams at George Wythe High School on Monday.
MS Soccer had the greatest tie of all time this week. After a downpour, it cleared up enough for GMS to go against an all-boy 3A school in Christiansburg. After starting the game 0-2, GMS mounted a second half come back to end the game 2-2. This was after a 5-3 win over Scott Memorial earleir in the week.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
