Reece Tate - MS Wrestling
Reece is a 7th grader on the MS wrestling team, and he has probably improved more than anyone since last year. Reece capped off a great winning year with two more wins last night in the home quad. He leads the charge for most improved but the wrestling world better watch out, because the whole team has improved tremendously, and some got their first taste of victory last night.
Braelynn Miller - Level 3 USA Gymnastics
Braelynn is a 7th grader on the Level 3 Team at Galax Gymnastics Center. We might be a small school, but that does not limit our student-athletes on their dreams and aspirations. We might not be able to offer some of the programs that 5 and 6A schools can, but our community is Galax Strong. Braelynn found Galax Gymnastics Center, prepared with her coaches, and excelled in her first meet in Knoxville, claiming 1st in all four events (bars, beam, floor, and vault) and winning 1st Place for the Level 3 Junior All-Around Gymnast. Her teammate, Evee Smith, who is also a GMS student, finished 2nd All-Around in the Bronze Junior division, and had one of the highest scores of the day on floor at a 9.775.

Spring Sports Interest Meetings
To be announced when we return from break
Making Waves
MS Basketball had two games this week. The boys came up just short, but were much improved, even shorthanded on players. They look to get back in the W column in the final two games this coming week. The girls culminated two more wins, which bring their record to 17-0 on the season. They are hoping to end the season with two more wins next week and achieve the "u" word!
MS Wrestling finished their season at home this week with a quad against some teams they haven't wrestled yet. Byram, Leo, Clay, and Reece had some dominating performances. A lot of improvement has been made this year, as Oakley, Rueben, and Tristan now look like naturals. Chevy's first win of the year was a big one, and the team finished strong at 10-4!
The MS Cheerleaders made the trip to Rural Retreat and experienced a gym where the sidelines touch the walls. Rolling with the punches, they cheered from the stands, and they still made the walls shake!
Spring Sports are just around the corner. More information to come, but there will be a baseball information meeting right when we get back from break. Baseball, Softball, and Soccer schedules are in the process of a little rearranging, but are almost finalized and will be out soon!
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - Please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition. Please let us know if your student-athlete has participated and/or excelled in any athletics outside of school that we can recognize.
