Byram Whitaker - MS Wrestling
Byram is a 7th grader on the MS Wrestling team. He is a part of a young team that started off their regular season with three big wins over Grayson, Carroll, and Radford. Obviously, with the those wins, our team is performing great right now, with many wrestlers dominating the mat. Byram, himself, had a busy week that included nine individual matches. For some wrestlers, nine matches is half a season. Out of those nine matches, he went 8-1 with his only loss coming from an opponent in the next weight class up and from a bigger school. All eight of his wins were by pin.
Mady Goad - MS Girls Basketball
Mady is an 8th grader on the MS Girls Basketball team. The team added three more wins to their season this week, and Mady was a key part of that. Her defense is relentless, and she pursues the ball with reckless abandon. She balances that with being calm, cool, and collective on the offensive end. As a point guard, those are some of the best qualities to have. She proved it this week, setting up her teammates and tallying up nearly 20 assists.

MS Basketball played three games this week. They went to Auburn Monday, had Carroll at home the next day, and ended with Scott Memorial at home on Thursday. The girls were able to pick up 3 wins this week, with the most impressive being a 48-1 at Auburn. The girls are also 9-0 on the season!
MS Swim had another great meet in Bristol this week, with the boys, girls, and combined teams bringing home the WIN! The boys, girls, and combined teams are all now 2-0! Catch them in action next week for the finals!
MS Wrestling kicked off their season with an all day tournament at Southeastern Stokes Middle. Several wrestlers went 4-0 on the day and the team accumulated over 30 wins on the day. They had a home meet this week in which they beat Grayson, Carroll, and Radford. They took to the road the very next day to face off against a tough Christiansburg and Blacksburg team. They are 3-2 on the season so far!
Cheer performed their halftime routine consisting of a dance, a cheer, and some stunts. A great job by all made everyone so proud.
Lifeguards
Teachers and Staff - a sheet has been shared with you that includes the names of students who are playing fall sports, their grade level, their coach, and their coach's contact info. If you feel contacting a coach about a student-athlete's behavior or performance in the classroom is necessary, please don't hesitate to do so. There has also been a gate duty sign-up sheet shared with you for the school year. If you work 4 gates, you earn a family pass or CYOW. If you work 8 gates, you get both!
Coaches - Please submit summaries and pictures of teams and/or individuals to georgeedmondson@galaxschools.us so that we can recognize those accomplishments. Please continue to not allow any student athletes to participate in games/meets/matches until they turn in their signed handbook page. In addition, please do not allow them to participate in any activity (practice or play) until you have a copy of their current VHSL physical.
Parents - please return the signed athletic handbook form as soon as possible so we can get these student athletes on the court/field with their teams to wash out the competition.
