POLIEA is a student-led research journal directed by YeLynn Lee that has published high school students’ research papers at our school since 2023. It provides a platform for students to share their academic research, develop scholarly writing skills, and contribute to intellectual discourse within the school community.
Beyond providing students with an opportunity to have their academic work recognized, we hope this initiative will contribute to the wider IB learning community at our school. The journal would encourage students to pursue independent inquiry, develop research and academic writing skills, engage critically with evidence, and communicate their findings to an authentic audience. It would also provide tangible evidence of students’ intellectual engagement, independent research, and academic development that they could reflect on and document in their IB Learner Portfolios.
By sharing each issue with teachers, we hope to make student research more visible across subject departments, encourage interdisciplinary learning, and allow teachers to discover and recommend promising student work. We also hope the journal will inspire more students to pursue research beyond the classroom and contribute to a stronger school-wide culture of academic inquiry.
